About us

“You must live for another

if you wish to live for yourself.”

Seneca the Younger

The remaining missing funds are acquired due to the generosity of all who understand the need to help the sick and their families.

Our Foundation is not a shelter or place for the disadvantaged and homeless, and staying in a hospice does not mean giving up professional medical advice! Thanks to palliative medicine, psychological and spiritual help, our patients are treated and live pain-free. They live with dignity for the rest of their lives, no matter how much time they have left.

We hope that the Ursynów community will not be indifferent to the fate of our patients.

In 1991, the the funding became available:

In 1996, the construction of a hospice was completed for 23 patients, in 2009 it was extended. Today, 38 patients can be under the care of a hospice.

Each year, our nurses, doctors, psychologists, and physiotherapists provide professional palliative care for about 2,300 patients and their families in home care, and about 1,000 patients in hospice.

The contracts with the National Health Fund and subsidies from the Warsaw City Hall provide about 60% of the actual cost of treatment and care.

The historical breakthrough, that took place in 1989, made it possible to formalize this activity. In 1990, three doctors:

Dr. Jerzy Jarosz, doc.  Dr. Halina Hattowska and Dr. Hanna Tchórzewska  physiotherapist, together with specialists in other fields (sociology – Dr. Jerzy Drążkiewicz, law – Roma Perestaj, architecture – Jerzy Górnicki and engineering –  Witold Ignaczuk, Marek Kos), brought to life The Oncology Hospice Foundation.

The first headquarters of the Foundation was the Pain Clinic in the Maria Sklodowska-Curie Institute – Oncology Center in Warsaw, the second – a small room in the Faculty of Biology building of the University of Warsaw. From that moment, Dr. Ryszard Szaniawski, who was the first President of the Board, joined the team of the founders of the Foundation.
